The Best Way To Freeze Fish And How Long It Will Last
BY ELIZABETH OKOSUN
For the best experience, fresh fish should be cooked the day it's caught. If you're unable to do that, the best way to preserve its flavor is by vacuum-sealing and freezing it.
Clean and scale the fish, then clean again and freeze for about an hour. Place it in a freezer-safe bag and vacuum seal it to keep air out and preserve the quality.
Place the vacuum-sealed bag of fish into the freezer once again, where it should be able to stay safe for up to a year. However, this depends on the type of fish.
This timeframe may only apply to leaner fish, not fatty fish. Without proper vacuum-sealing, lean fish may last six to eight months, and fatty fish may last two to three months.
