While there's nothing much to distinguish the type of bean used to make refried beans, chef Ronaldo Linares considers pinto beans the best variety to use while preparing the dish.
"Its creamy texture and slightly nutty flavor works perfectly for this dish," the Institute of Culinary Education graduate explained while speaking to Tasting Table.
Using a blend of various beans can add flavor and texture, but pinto beans are the standard throughout most of Mexico. They have deep roots in the area's culture and cuisine.
