Per Chris Walster, a whiskey connoisseur at The Cask Connoisseur with 40 years of experience, the best affordable Irish whiskey is Jameson — a brand we're all familiar with.
He says he prefers Jameson's Whiskey "partly because they must be doing something right as they've been around since 1780 and partly because I've been drinking it for decades."
"It's smooth and easily approachable," he says, making it the epitome of what Irish whiskey is known for. Most brands double-distill their spirits, but Jameson triple-distills.
That gives its spirits a soft, refined finish. Of all Jameson's offerings, Walster prefers its original whiskey, which boasts a fruity, vanilla flavor and some spiced, nutty notes.
