The Barbecue Restaurant Anthony Bourdain Couldn't Pass On In Kansas City
BY MICHELLE WELSCH
In a city revered for its legendary barbecue, Anthony Bourdain encountered a Kansas City joint that stands above the rest: Joe’s Kansas City BBQ.
According to Bourdain, Joe’s delivers on key elements of what makes American barbecue great, from seasoning and the chef’s know-how to the fuel used for the grill.
“It’s the best barbecue in Kansas City, which makes it the best barbecue in the world,” Bourdain concluded in a 2005 episode of his show, A Cook’s Tour.
Don’t let the original signage at Joe’s fool you. "It reminds you that good food can happen in unexpected places, even in your own backyard," wrote one Google reviewer.
Joe’s has three other locations, each of which serves ribs and pulled pork sandwiches. Classic sides include BBQ beans, potato salad, and cole slaw.
One plate which truly sets Joe’s apart is the Z-Man sandwich, featuring brisket covered in barbecue sauce and topped by crispy onion rings.
