Take Your Halloween Cocktails To New Heights With Black Vodka
BY MOLLY HARRIS
The Halloween season is a time when daring and bizarre-looking cocktails get a moment in the spotlight. To wow and mystify your guests, try using ghoulish black vodka.
Homemade black vodka is as simple as adding food coloring to a high-quality, clear vodka. You can use black gel coloring or a mix of red, blue, and green liquid coloring.
Start by adding 10 drops of blue food coloring to every bottle of vodka you plan to alter. Next, add 10 drops of red food coloring, followed by eight drops of green.
Recap the vodka bottle and shake it thoroughly to mix the coloring in. It won't need to be re-mixed after this, so you can dole out spooky cocktails all night with no worries.
As for drink ideas, try a black-as-night martini with black vodka and a touch of dry vermouth, garnished with a twist of orange peel for a pop of festive Halloween color.
We also recommend a Blackberry Potion cocktail. Muddle fresh blackberries with a splash of lime juice and simple syrup, then shake with the vodka and strain over ice.
Finally, try a Witch's Brew Fizz. Combine black vodka with elderflower liqueur and a squeeze of lemon juice, shake with ice, strain into a glass, and top with sparkling water.
