Store-Bought Coffee Brands That Use The Best Quality Beans Possible
BY Melissa Cabey
Peet's Coffee
Each bean processed through Peet's facility must pass a quality test. A specific team and Peet's Coffee Roastmaster taste every single coffee going into a Peet's bag.
The testers use the cupping method to ensure each tasting is done the same. Peet's uses high-quality beans and a manual roasting system that's set to the brand's specific taste.
Trader Joe's
TJ's beans are from the "bean belt” area, which grows Earth's best coffee. Its line includes Matagalpa's shade grown beans and exclusive bean blends from small farms.
Once the process of growing, roasting, and taste-test cupping is done, TJ's packaging method ensures the quality of roasted beans won't degrade once they're on store shelves.
Although TJ's also offers coffee packaged in vacuum-sealed bags, getting whole coffee beans packaged in cans guarantees less oxygenation and thus, better tasting coffee.
La Colombe Coffee
Offering roasts from around the world, La Colombe uses beans from high elevations of 4,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level, where their experts say the best coffee grows.
Its extremely precise roasting process ensures the best tasting coffee. It also focuses on packaging the beans in a way that eliminates oxygen as best as possible.
The brand flushes the beans with nitrogen and bags them immediately. Most of its bags have a one-way valve that lets gasses released by the beans escape while keeping oxygen out.
Stumptown Coffee Roasters
Stumptown’s beans are from the tropics among mountainous regions. Its coffee team spends half their year at the farms to be involved in the production.
Through Youtube videos that the company has shared, you can see its delicate roasting process, which shows the care and expertise that Stumptown's roasters use to make each roast.
Kicking Horse Coffee
Canadian brand Kicking Horse Coffee only uses Arabica beans, which are considered high-quality beans due to their smooth taste and low to medium acidity.
The brand keeps adapting its methods and machinery to create the best coffee. Currently, it uses a rotary batch mixer that mixes and roasts the beans gently, avoiding damage.
