Splurging On Fleur De Sel? Here's The Brand Ina Garten Suggests You Get
BY JEN PENG
One of the highest-quality types of salt is fleur de sel, French for "flower of salt." Unlike regular sea salt, fleur de sel is harvested by hand in certain regions of France.
Fleur de sel is delicate and flaky, and has more calcium and magnesium than many other types of salt. It's expensive, but a must-have according to many chefs, including Ina Garten.
Garten recommends the brand Le Saunier De Camargue Fleur De Sel for the best salt to splurge on. Le Saunier De Camargue is a favor of many other pro chefs as well.
With snowflake-shaped crystals that melt slowly on the tongue, Garten says that Le Saunier De Camargue Fleur De Sel is the perfect finishing touch on both sweet and savory dishes.
Just before serving, sprinkle the salt on meats, fish, vegetables, salads, or eggs, as well as candies, caramels, chocolates, and crème brulee for a sweet and lightly salty finish.
At nearly $15 for just 4.4 ounces, it's a splurge for salt, but since just a bit is needed to elevate many dishes, one container should last a long while.
