Skip The European Butter For Your Grilled Cheese
BY AUTUMN SWIERS
If you want to improve your grilled cheese, you can experiment with your cheese or upgrade your bread, but you're better off skipping the European butter.
That rich European butter might seem tempting for your grilled cheese, but the truth is, it isn’t really necessary. In fact, you likely won’t notice the difference at all.
For grilled cheeses, butter is mostly for functionality rather than flavor. It’s used to fry the outside to a golden crisp while the bread and cheese provide most of the flavor.
Thus, while you should use European butter for dishes where its flavor will be noticed, it’s fine to opt for cheaper American butter when making grilled cheeses.
