Save Banana Peels And Turn Them Into A Sweet Syrup
BY JULIA HOLLAND
While the banana is a versatile fruit, many discard the peel without a second thought. However, you can use the discarded peel for a banana-flavored simple syrup.
Simply dice the peels into small pieces, place them in a sealable container, and cover them with an equal volume of sugar. Afterward, let the peels sit on the counter overnight.
The sugar will have dissolved after extracting all of the water content from the peels. Pour the peels and the sugary liquid into a blender and mix until smooth.
Finally, strain the thick, pulpy liquid through cheesecloth to create a molasses-like syrup that you can add to drinks, baked goods, smoothies, and other treats.
