Sammy Davis Jr.’s Favorite Drink Was A Highball With Japanese Whisky
BY BRIAN UDALL
A highball is usually made with two parts whiskey and four parts club soda. Sammy Davis Jr. enjoyed highballs with ginger ale instead of club soda and Japanese Suntory Whisky.
Davis' love of Japanese highballs became so well-known that Suntory contacted him, and he became one of their first American celebrity endorsers, helping it reach luxury status.
Popular in the 1950s, Japanese highballs started to be seen as an old person's drink in the '80s and '90s, but today, they are enjoying their place in the spotlight once again.
