Ree Drummond Has Strong Feelings About How To Make Cinnamon Toast
By KAREN HART
Cinnamon toast is a childhood favorite for many people, so it’s no surprise that everyone has their own opinions about making it. However, before you break out your ingredients, Ree Drummond says she's the only one who has the correct method of making cinnamon toast, and that method involves Mexican vanilla extract.
The celebrity chef starts by mixing plenty of sugar, with a couple of sticks of butter, some cinnamon, and Mexican vanilla extract, and spreads it onto her bread. She pops the bread into the oven for 10 minutes so the butter doesn't melt too quickly, which she says will make the bread soggy, and finishes it off under the broiler to golden perfection.
If you use Mexican vanilla for your cinnamon toast, make certain it's the real deal made with vanilla bean. The F.D.A. warns consumers to beware of bargain Mexican vanilla made from the extract of tonka tree beans as they contain coumarin — which has been banned in the U.S. since 1940 over serious health concerns.
