Potato Pom Poms Are The Crispiest Way To Totally Boost Spuds
BY JOHN TOLLEY
Potatoes can be chopped and then roasted or fried for an easy and crispy side dish, but if you want maximum crispness in your potatoes, try making potato pom poms.
Inspired by hasselback potatoes, which are sliced halfway and fanned out before being fried or baked, TikToker @whisperofyum invented pom pom potatoes as a crispier alternative.
To make them, slice a potato in a crosshatch pattern for tons of surface area. The spud is given a saltwater bath, then dredged in seasoned flour and fried for crunchy treat.
Place a pair of chopsticks around each potato to stop your knife from cutting all the way through. Your knife will hit the chopsticks and you'll know you've cut deeply enough.
If you don’t want to fry your pom pom potatoes, you can always use an air fryer. Simply cook at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 to 18 minutes for the proper crispiness.
Once you master the technique, experiment with seasoning your potatoes with flavorings like cumin, chili powder, paprika, garlic, cayenne for a bit of heat, or onion powder.
