Once You Start Cooking Rice In White Wine, You Won’t Look Back
BY STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
Whether you use a rice cooker or cook rice on the stove, you can easily upgrade the flavor of plain rice by adding in white wine as it cooks.
This may sound strange, but rice and wine are a common pairing in dishes like risotto. Instead of cooking your rice in water, just use wine for a complex flavor and amazing aroma.
The wine brings a slight acidity to the otherwise plain rice. You can enjoy the upgraded rice on its own or use it as a base for rich, creamy rice dishes.
Choose a dry wine like a Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay, and avoid sweeter wines, as the extra sugars will significantly alter the flavor of the rice.
Simply cook your rice as you normally would, using as much wine as you would use water, or try a ratio of one part wine to three parts broth for extra savoriness in your rice.
