Old Bay Is The Classic Ingredient That Will Offer Your Pickles A Kick
BY KYLE GRACE MILLS
Whether homemade or store-bought, pickles can add zest to all sorts of meals. To add even more flavor to basic pickles, try upgrading them with some Old Bay seasoning.
Old Bay seasoning is mildly sweet with a hint of heat, and many of the spices in the mix are traditional pickling spices, such as allspice, cloves, mustard, cinnamon, and ginger.
Old Bay also packs a few extra spices that can make pickles more dimensional. If you're making pickles from scratch, add one tablespoon of Old Bay to your other seasonings.
To upgrade store-bought pickles, simply add a tablespoon of Old Bay to the jar and mix. Homemade pickles will have a stronger flavor, though using store-bought is much easier.
Let the pickles and spice sit for at least a day, or ideally longer than that to allow the flavors to meld. A week of rest yields the best results.
