Negroni Vs Negroni Sbagliato: What's The Difference?
By Stephanie Maida
Thanks to the slew of Negroni variations these days, there's sure to be a Negroni fit for every taste. One such riff that's taken off in recent years is the Negroni Sbagliato.
Rather than gin, a Negroni Sbagliato contains Prosecco. It is believed to have been created by accident, and the name reflects this: "sbagliato" is "mistaken" in Italian.
While a traditional Negroni is notably bitter and herbaceous due to the Campari and gin, a Negroni Sbagliato is lighter and sweeter with a nice fizziness to the mouthfeel.
The floral, fruity sparkling wine plays nicely with the citrusy, spicy notes of Campari, making it great for drinkers who flinch at the stronger taste of a traditional Negroni.
A Negroni Sbagliato also has less alcohol by volume. This is because gin typically has an ABV between 36% and 50%, while Prosecco has an ABV around 10% to 12%.
