Fast Food Contributed To The Downfall Of Howard Johnson's
BY JENNA WOS
In the mid-1960s, Howard Johnson's was a popular choice for high-quality food and a clean place to stay, but this fame eventually waned, partially due to modern fast food joints.
Around the time modern fast food chains like McDonald's were booming, Howard Johnson's was inherited by founder Howard Johnson's son, Bud, who wasn't as dedicated to quality.
Toward the late 1970s, Bud began to relax the rules and the quality of food and standards slipped, resulting in Howard Johnson's having an off-putting reputation.
Meanwhile, modern fast food chains like Burger King had smaller menus, lower prices, and quicker service, and some even had owners as meticulous about quality as Howard Johnson.
