McDonald's Vs Wendy's: Which Chain's Fish Sandwich Is Better?
BY HUNTER WREN MIELE
When comparing McDonald's and Wendy's fish sandwiches — called Filet-O-Fish and Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich, respectively — our deciding factors came down to flavor and texture.
The Filet-O-Fish features a half slice of American cheese, McDonald's tartar sauce, and a square, breaded fish (sustainable, wild-caught Alaskan pollock) patty in a steamed bun.
In contrast, Wendy's Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich comprises a panko-crusted, wild-caught Alaskan pollock filet, pickles, lettuce, American cheese, tartar sauce, and warm burger buns.
After our taste test, we found that McDonald's sandwich was too bland to beat that of Wendy's, thanks to the latter's savory patty doused in tartar sauce and zest from pickles.
Unlike the mushy Filet-O-Fish, the Wendy's sandwich had some crunch from the pickles and panko coating. Still, the melted cheese and limp lettuce made the latter far from perfect.
