Make Melted Onions In A Muffin Pan For A Uniquely Rich Side Dish
BY KAREN HART
Onions transform into a savory delicacy when roasted in the oven in butter or oil. With a muffin tin, you can prepare this rich side dish effortlessly.
The deep compartments of a muffin tin are perfect for roasting onion halves and easy to clean. To get started, clean the onions and soak them in water for about an hour.
Cut them in half, place them in the muffin compartments, and roast them at 425 degrees F for about 20 minutes so they're aromatic and soft. Brush them with butter or olive oil.
Sprinkle some salt and pepper and use breadcrumbs to add to their texture and taste. Continue baking for 30-40 minutes until the onions are soft, golden, and slightly charred.
As the onions' sugars caramelize, they develop a sweet taste and velvety texture. Once they cool, enjoy them as sides, or experiment with them atop sandwiches or as toppings.
