With their mild flavor, kidney beans can take on the salad's other ingredients without overwhelming them. The beans are also packed with protein, similar to chicken.
Kidney beans also have a thick skin and the insides turn soft when cooked, providing a contrasting texture with the salad's crunchy ingredients.
