Julie & Julia Writer Julie Powell's Death Has The Food World Shaken
On October 26, 2022, iconic food blogger of the The Julie/Julia Project, Julie Powel, passed away in her home at age 49 due to cardiac arrest. Powell was widely known for her impressive feat of cooking all 524 recipes from Julia Child’s "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" within a year, and chronicling her journey along the way.
Powell was forced to push past any food aversions, scour supermarkets for proper ingredients, master complex techniques, and spend hours in the kitchen in a captivating story. The writer-turned-curious-cook shared the ups and downs of her task in a relatable and humorous way, and helped introduce Child’s complex work to newer generations.
The blog quickly landed Powell a book deal, "Julie & Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously" — which inspired a major film, starring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep, called "Julie & Julia" — and she later published another book, "Cleaving: a Story of Marriage, Meat, and Obsession." Powell captivated and inspired many home and professional cooks, leaving behind a lasting legacy.
