Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon: The Ultimate Bottle Guide
BY BRIANNA LOPEZ
History
Josh Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect beginner red wine thanks to its balanced taste and accessible price that ranges from $10 to $15 per bottle.
The cabernet has recently found viral fame thanks to popular memes of the wine, but Josh Cellars has been operating in northern California since Joseph Carr started the winery in 2007.
Taste
Josh Cellars’ Cab has a rich flavor with notes of fruit that give way to oak and end with a smokey finish, earning the wine even a 91-point score from Wine Enthusiast in 2019.
The most prominent flavors are dark fruits like plums and blackberries with a slight vanilla sweetness and notes of hazelnut, all accentuated by the wine’s bold tannins.
Production
Josh Cellars' Cab is made of grapes sourced from the Paso Robles, a coastal wine region of California that produces bold, full-bodied wines.
The grapes are then fermented and aged in oak barrels for at least one year, imbuing the wine with the light maple, oaky flavors Josh Cellars’ is known for.
Enjoying Josh
Josh Cellars’ Cab is best at room temperature but also works when slightly chilled. Just make sure to begin aerating the wine one to three hours before enjoying it.
Pair Josh with heavier foods like spaghetti and stews, meats like lamb and pork, or indulgent, chocolatey desserts. You can also use it in cocktails like a Lazy Sunday Sour.
Price Point
Josh Cabernet Sauvignon is a budget-friendly, mid-range wine option that is easily accessible at many retailers with a price point from $13.48 to $17.99.
With a 4.6-star review on ABC Fine Wine and Spirits, the wine is an excellent beginner Cabernet, and also an excellent glimpse into the other wines available at Josh Cellars.
