If you’re one of the growing number of people who own an air fryer, you may have wondered if it’s safe to use aluminum foil in them. Afterall, this can make the cooking and cleaning process a lot simpler. But considering the dangers foil can cause in microwaves, it’s perfectly reasonable to be cautious.
“Southern Living” explains that it is safe to use foil in an air fryer, as long as you follow a few precautions. Air fryers work by circulating hot air so it’s important not to put foil on the bottom of the air fryer itself or over the food, where it can interfere with the cooking process. Also ensure that the foil is weighted down enough to stay in place.
Another important thing to note when using foil — whether in an air fryer or an oven — is to be careful about using acidic foods on top of it. Ingredients like tomato sauce and vinegar can damage the foil and cause aluminum to seep through in larger amounts, which can negatively impact the taste of a meal.
