Is It Possible For Vegans To Follow The Keto Diet?
By AMANDA BRETZ
The keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat diet that usually involves the consumption of meat and dairy, whereas veganism involves eliminating all animal products from your diet. If you're vegan and want to follow the keto diet for weight loss or other health benefits, you may wonder if it's possible to follow both the keto and vegan diets simultaneously.
As detailed by Mind Body Green, doing a vegan keto diet is not only possible, but it can be highly successful. Try embracing low-starch vegetables like zucchini and cauliflower, low-sugar fruits like berries, plant-based fat sources such as avocados, coconut oil, full-fat coconut milk, and nuts and seeds.
While replacing meats and fats is easier, substituting eggs is important as they are a large part of the traditional keto diet due to their versatility, high protein, and relatively low cost. Luckily, per Ketogenic, numerous vegan-friendly staples are available as egg replacements, like aquafaba or water from canned chickpeas, silken tofu, flax, and chia seeds.
