Ina Garten's Tip For Keeping Blades Sharp In Your Knife Block

Ina Garten recently impressed her Instagram followers by revealing her secret for preserving pricey kitchen knives: storing the knives upside down on the knife block.
In the caption, she noted that she "choose[s] knife blocks that hold most of the knives sideways." She even has another trick for knives that are held vertically.
To preserve the knives held in a vertical knife block, Garten slides them into the slot upside down rather than the right side up so their blades don't hit the wood.
This technique gives the knives extra room and prevents the blades from scraping against the wood, helping you reduce wear and tear on those expensive cutting utensils.
