Ina Garten's Firm Opinion On How To Properly Make Brownies
By ARIANNA ENDICOTT
Brownies have been around for over a hundred years, and these treats can be made with all kinds of fun additions, from cream cheese to caramel to butterscotch. However, your basic brownie recipe needs to be great before you put a twist on it, and celeb chef Ina Garten has strong opinions on what makes the best brownie.
To start making brownies, "The Barefoot Contessa" host first prepares a "brownie pudding," a combination of cocoa powder, eggs, sugar, and more, then mixes in two melted sticks of butter and allows it to cool. Garten then adds the pudding to her brownie batter, for a result that is nicely baked on the outside but "like pudding" on the inside.
In a YouTube video of Garten making brownie pudding, she even jokes that people who leave plenty of butter out of their brownies "should be arrested." Using melted butter adds extra layer of moisture, a richer flavor, and allows the other ingredients to blend seamlessly; just remember to let your perfect brownies cool before slicing them up.
