Ina Garten's Easy Trick For Flavorful Meat In Stuffed Cabbage
By LISA CURRAN MATTE
Classic stuffed cabbage is assembled with just a meat mixture, cabbage, and tomato sauce. To make her version stand out, Ina Garten likes to incorporate her sauce in a unique way.
In Garten's stuffed cabbage, half of the sauce goes on top of the leaves while the other half is mixed into the meat filling, adding an extra punch of sweet and sour flavor.
After blanching the fresh cabbage and separating its leaves, Garten uses a sharp knife to remove the rib from each leaf and fills the cabbage leaves with her meat mixture.
She then spreads a thin base of tomato sauce on the bottom of her pan to keep the rolls from sticking, adds the rolls and more sauce on top, then covers and bakes the whole thing.
