If You Don't Have Vodka, Use Gin For Your Next Tomato Sauce

If you’re ever making a dish like penne alla vodka and run out of vodka, you can use gin instead. Gin is very similar to vodka and may even taste better in your sauce.
The only real difference between the two is that gin contains juniper. This extra flavor pairs well with red pepper without overpowering the dish's other flavors.
The herbaceous juniper will give the dish a brighter taste that's much lighter than if you added wine. If you’re out of vodka and gin, you can try mescal, which adds a smoky note.
