Humphrey Bogart's Favorite Liquor To Drink On Set
BY AUTUMN SWIERS
Per the lore, Humphrey Bogart's final words were a lamentation that he switched to Martinis from scotch, indicating the late star's profound love for the liquor.
When shooting wrapped at 6:00 p.m., a glass of scotch and water was promptly delivered to him on set by his hair stylist and longtime mistress, Verita Peterson.
According to his agent Phil Gersh, Bogart's regular lunch order at a hangout in Beverly Hills also included French toast, a brandy, and two scotch and sodas.
It's even rumored that Bogart evaded a wave of dysentery virus while shooting for "The African Queen" in Uganda because he didn't drink water there — just whisky.
A few years later, in 1956, while filming "The Barefoot Contessa," the actor joked that he only consumed scotch and minestrone during his time in Italy.
