How To Mask The Bitter Kale Flavors In Homemade Smoothies
By JENNIFER SWEENIE
Raw kale is a popular addition to add nutrition to smoothies, but it's a rather bitter green. Luckily, kale's bitterness can be masked when counteracted with sweetness.
Hide kale’s bitterness by adding a high-sugar fruit such as banana, mango, or pineapple, or sweeten the smoothie with honey, maple syrup, or a soft date or two.
If you want to add even more vegetables to your smoothie, red peppers, carrots, or beets can also add a hint of sweetness and more nutrition.
Taste the smoothie as you blend and add more sweetness as needed. The drink is even better with toppings like cinnamon or cardamom, cocoa powder, or even shredded coconut.
