How Long You Can Store Homemade Soup In The Fridge And Freezer
BY AUSTIN HAVENS-BOWEN
Homemade soup can safely be stored in the fridge for three to four days, per standard guidance from the USDA. This includes soups and stews that contain fish, meat, and poultry.
If the soup won't be eaten within that time frame, you can store it in the freezer for up to four months. It can be frozen for longer, but its quality and flavor won’t be as good.
To store soup in the fridge, you can keep it in the pot if there's not too much left. Otherwise, the soup should be placed in airtight glass or plastic containers.
To reduce the risk of any bacteria or mold forming and prevent cross-contamination with other foods in the fridge, it's crucial to use a container with a lid that closes properly.
For freezing, transfer the soup to an airtight freezer-safe container, and be sure not to overfill it. Label any containers with the date so you know how long they’ve been stored.
