Here's How Long It Takes Filet Mignon To Cook On The Grill
BY STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
To cook a one-and-a-half-inch filet mignon to medium rare, barbecue it for 10 minutes total, flipping halfway through. For medium, go for between 10 and 14 minutes.
For medium-well, aim for 14 to 18 minutes, and for rare, six to 10 minutes should do it. These times are according to a grill set to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
If your steak is thinner than an inch and a half, you'll need to adjust slightly by shaving two to three minutes off the recommended times above.
After it's seared, you may need to move it to lower heat for a few minutes so that the insides can come to your desired temperature. This can be checked with a meat thermometer.
