Fry Canned Butter Beans For A Crispy Addition To Nearly Any Dish
BY WENDY MEAD
Butter beans, AKA lima beans, are delicious and nutritious. One cup has over 14 grams of protein, making them a great addition to bulk up any meal, especially when fried.
Frying butter beans makes them crispy, which is perfect for giving dishes some crunch. They can take the place of croutons in a salad, or make a crisp garnish for casseroles.
To make this tasty treat, grab a can of butter beans and a frying oil such as olive, vegetable, corn, or even a flavored oil, as the beans are good at soaking up flavors.
Try adding fresh garlic or chiles to the oil as the beans fry. You’ll want to add garlic near the end when the beans are almost done so that the cloves don't burn.
Spices like cumin, chili, and onion powder are great for seasoning the beans and serving them on their own. Fresh rosemary, thyme, or cilantro are also delicious garnishes.
