Frozen Seafood At Costco You Should Buy And Others To Avoid
BY Carmen Varner
Buy: Tortilla Crusted Tilapia
The Sea Cuisine Tortilla Crusted Tilapia box has 2 pounds of fish encrusted with corn tortilla chips, chipotle pepper, and garlic.
The tilapia is flavorful and savory due to ingredients like cilantro, oregano, and chili powder. Its texture is nicely balanced with crunchy tortilla bits and the fish's softness.
Avoid: Tilapia Loins
While they aren't awful, Kirkland Farm Raised Tilapia Loins aren't great either. It's recommended to thaw the fish overnight and remove it from the packaging.
This means you'll need to use another container to do so. It's a good value, but the overall flavor isn't too impressive even after seasoning it and adding fresh lemon juice.
Buy: Hokkaido Scallops
Once thawed, East Coast Seafood Japanese Hokkaido Scallops offer an incredibly tender, restaurant-quality meal in just a few minutes.
They're buttery, soft, and mild. They did retain some water even after thawing, draining, and cooking, but they didn't have a fishy or unpleasant taste and were still delicious.
Avoid: Bacon Scallops
The Galilean's Kitchen Bacon Wrapped Scallops could be amazing but fall short. The issue is the sizing: Each piece in the bag varies wildly.
The varying sizes mean cooking might fluctuate. They can also be chewy, not crispy enough, and lacking in taste despite the hickory smoked bacon.
Buy: Lobster Sliders
While lobster connoisseurs may have an issue with it, the East Coast Seafood Cold Water Lobster Sliders are a fun meal that you can enjoy for dinner.
The lobster is fresh without being too chewy, and the butter is a unique addition that ties it all together, bringing plenty of richness and flavor to the buns and the lobsters.
