French Onion Potatoes Combine The Best Of 2 Comfort Food Classics
By ALI FAGAN
French onion soup, rich with the flavor of caramelized onions, beef broth, French bread, and Gruyère cheese, is a staple in Parisian cuisine; however, experimenting with a time-honored dish can make something truly inventive and delicious. That's what social media influence Nadia Aidi did with her recipe for French Onion Potatoes.
On her Instagram account foodmymuse and other social media platforms, Aidi shared her amazing mashup of French onion soup and baked potatoes. In a how-to video, Aidi caramelizes thinly sliced onions in butter with brown sugar, then adds bay leaves, thyme, white wine, and beef broth — classic ingredients in the beloved soup.
Next, Aidia puts parboiled, halved potatoes on a sheet pan and scoops out the centers, as you would with potato skins. She tops the potatoes with Gruyère cheese, the onions, fresh chives, and thyme, then bakes it until the cheese melts and bubbles — and make sure to save the potato fillings to make another tasty dish of your choice.
