For Ina Garten, Sheet Pans
Are Also Comprehensive Pot Lids
BY LISA CURRAN MATTE
Celebrity chef Ina Garten shared an easy tip in her “Go-To Dinners: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook” that might help when you can’t find the right lid to cover your pot of food.
A simple sheet pan on top of a pot can work as a lid by retaining the heat and moisture in the dish you're preparing, as long as the handles of the pot don't rise above the rim.
However, it’s important to be careful when you are using a sheet pan as a lid since they are not designed to fit snuggly and could easily be knocked off the pot by accident.
Sheet pans can also release more steam than a proper, vented pot lid, but as long as you take your time and are extra careful, it’s still a handy go-to option for missing lids.
