For An Epic Grilled Cheese Experience, Use Cuban Sandwich Ingredients
BY LUNA REGINA
Grilled cheeses are always delicious, comforting, and filling, but if you want a bit more flavor, take inspiration from Cuban sandwiches for your add-ins.
Cuban sandwiches are made of Cuban bread, roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard to create a savory sandwich with tangy, smoky notes.
This only gets better when you turn it into a grilled cheese sandwich. The melted cheese adds sweet, buttery, and distinctively tart notes, making every bite utterly tantalizing.
The texture is enhanced by the crunch of the pickles, and the contrast of the ham and pork, all coated in lusciously gooey cheese, truly giving you the best of both worlds.
Cuban bread is an integral ingredient, but if not readily available, you can swap it with French bread, white sourdough, ciabatta, or focaccia.
Apart from Swiss, use cheeses like cheddar, provolone, gruyere, gouda, fontina, and pepper jack. The pork is often marinated with brown sugar, lime juice, dried herbs, and spices.
