FDR Had The Worst Food In White House History
BY LISA CURRAN MATTE
During their tenure in the White House, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt made a conscious decision to serve and consume budget-friendly meals.
While both grew up in affluent homes where fine dining was common, they opted for simplicity in a show of solidarity with U.S. citizens suffering through the Great Depression.
There was, however, one major glitch in the otherwise admirable plan: the White House kitchen staff lacked the ability to make the budget meals taste delicious.
Responsibility for the terrible food actually lay with Henrietta Nesbitt, who was hired by Mrs. Roosevelt to oversee White House housekeeping, meal planning, and food preparation.
