Every Mac And Cheese Recipe Can Be Boosted With One Pantry Spice
BY KAREN HART
Even go-to, comforting dishes like mac and cheese can use an upgrade every once in a while, and luckily, there’s a simple pantry staple that can help elevate this homey dish.
There are many ways to transform the flavor of basic mac and cheese, but one of the best additions is ground mustard, which can add an unexpected kick of flavor.
The ground mustard will add some spice and sharpness to your dish, particularly if you use brown mustard. The mustard’s acidity will help cut through the fatty cheese and dairy.
Add ground mustard into the roux you'll use to thicken the sauce. You can also simply add a half or whole tablespoon of yellow or Dijon mustard directly into the dish.
