Elevate Your Grilled Cheese With An Unexpected Sweet Addition
BY SARA KLIMEK
While there are tons of ways to elevate a grilled cheese sandwich, one of the easiest methods is adding fruit preserves to give your savory sandwich a unique boost of sweetness.
They also complement various cheeses used for your sandwich, and since the fruit is larger than in jams and jellies, you get large chunks interspersed within a sugary syrup.
Consequently, every bite is unique. To incorporate this condiment, add a schmear on your slice of bread, then layer in your cheese and close the slices together.
If your preserves are leaking out and burning on the pan, you can even serve them as a dip. Just make sure you're matching the flavor of the fruit with the cheese's tasting notes.
