Don't Cut A Pineapple Unless You Flip It Upside Down First
By STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
Next time you bring a pineapple home from the store, flip it upside down immediately to ensure the juices — and sweet flavors — are evenly distributed throughout.
The base of the fruit (the part near the tree when it was picked) is where sugars collect, so if you skip this step, any cubes from the top may be a little bland and shriveled.
First, cut off the top of the pineapple and flip it upside down on a plate, then wrap it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil so all those juices don't seep out.
If you can, let it rest this way for a few days for more flavorful results, either in the fridge or at room temperature, though the cold may keep it fresh for longer.
Once the juices have had a few days to ruminate, slice your pineapple into one-inch-thick pieces and grill them up for a sweet treat or turn them into a pineapple upside-down cake.
