Cracker Barrel Dishes You Should Never Order
BY Samantha Maxwell
Carrots
Considered one of the worst Cracker Barrel side dishes, the chain uses baby carrots, which are designed for snacking raw and shouldn't be cooked or used as a hot dish.
These carrots are soggy, with none of the snappy texture that makes carrots appealing. They barely taste like anything and have a sickly, mushy texture.
Friday Fish Fry
Some claim that the Friday fish fry is a "mystery fish" instead of the expected cod, which wouldn't be a problem if it tasted good. Unfortunately, it doesn't.
One customer complained on TripAdvisor that the dish is "soft and mushy," which generally isn't a sign of freshness. Another customer claimed that the dish "tasted very fishy."
Rainbow Trout
While the lemon pepper rainbow trout sounds delicious, one Mashed survey found it was widely regarded as the worst dish on the entire menu.
Over 37% of respondents said it was their least favorite. It could be that it wasn't what customers were expecting; regardless, there are many other seafood options available.
Dumplins
The dumplins are not bad, with a chewy, almost gummy texture. However, the sauce is too thick and almost glue-like, without any of the soupiness you might expect.
Additionally, although it's not advertised as a side that comes with chicken, it's missing any chicken-y flavor, rendering a dish with basically no flavor.
Meatloaf
In the Mashed survey, over a fifth of respondents said the meatloaf was actually the worst dish on the menu. However, it appears the meatloaf wasn't always bad.
One customer on Reddit claimed the meatloaf used to be enjoyable. Nowadays, it seems to lack flavor, with some complaining that it doesn't come with any sauce on top.
