Cleaning Vs Descaling Your Nespresso Machine: What's The Difference?
BY Claire Redden
Both cleaning and descaling your Nespresso machine are necessary to ensure it stays functional for as long as possible.
Cleaning your Nespresso involves wiping down the outside of your machine, removing the various parts, and washing them before running your machine's automatic cleaning process.
Descaling is a different process that targets the machine's internal parts, tackling the chemicals that build up. It's an important yet relatively hands-off process.
Most machines have a way to enter into "descaling mode." Before you start, turn your machine off and fill the water tank with Nespresso's descaling liquid to the descaling line.
Place a large bowl underneath the steam wand and coffee dispenser. The process should take roughly 20 minutes and should be followed by another rinse cycle with water.
You'll want to do both processes regularly. You should have a weekly cleaning cycle; however, Nespresso recommends descaling your machine every 6 months.
