Cat Cora's Safety Tip For Dicing Soft, Slippery Fruits
BY MEGGAN ROBINSON
Slicing ripe, slippery fruit can be downright dangerous, which is why chef Cat Cora advises home cooks to leave the peel on, even if you plan to use the unpeeled fruit.
Slice the fruit in half and score it from the inside, slicing up to the peel, but not through it. Once you've sliced lengthwise and across, use a spoon to scoop out the fruit.
Using a sharp knife is safer than using a dull one, as dull blades are more likely to slip. Keeping your knives sharp makes Cora's inside-out fruit dicing technique much safer.
Using Cora's technique may take a little practice, but it's worth it. It lets you make delicious fruit salads, salsas, baked goods, and toppings with no fear of cutting yourself.
