Can You Utilize Frozen Apples In A Pie Filling?
BY KAREN HART
While fresh apples are the preferred option and yield the best results, you can also make apple pie with frozen apples. However, if you do so, there are some things to note.
When using frozen apple slices for apple pie, use them frozen, or else they can lose their shape and get a mushy texture. You may need to bake the pie a little longer.
If you do thaw your frozen apples, let them do so overnight so all the liquid can be released and drained. This will reduce their volume, so thaw more than you think you will need.
Thawing your apples will also change the texture of the filling and could make it more like a soft apple preserve than the crunchy apple bite you are used to.
