Bratwurst Vs Kielbasa: What's The Difference?
BY AUTUMN SWIERS
Not all sausages are created equal, like German bratwurst and Polish kielbasa, each of which has vastly different tastes and different culinary uses.
They were created as a thrifty way to use up meat scraps and are thought to have originated in Nuremberg, Germany, in the 1300s. However, bratwurst may be even older.
Bratwurst is typically made from pork, but veal and beef aren’t uncommon, and they’re flavored with sweeter seasonings like ginger, nutmeg, coriander, and caraway.
Polish kielbasa sausages are often made from pork shoulder, although veal, beef, chicken, and other meats are common. It’s usually sold in a two-foot-long, thick U-shape.
