Avoid These Dishes At Golden Corral
BY Emily Hunt
Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
The mashed potatoes and gravy are served separately, but since they're right next to each other, it's only natural to pair them together on a plate.
The gravy had a gluey, gelatinous texture, and was bland and extremely salty. With the mashed potatoes tasting like regular instant mashed potatoes, the dish is best avoided.
Steamed Vegetables
While the steamed cauliflower, carrots, and broccoli are offered in separate serving trays, we're lumping them together as a collective "do not try this" item.
There was no seasoning on the veggies to speak of, and thus no flavor. The carrots retained some of their bite, but the cauliflower and broccoli were mushy and lukewarm.
Scrambled Eggs
We found the scrambled eggs dense, slightly rubbery, and nowhere near fluffy. Plus, they were mildly slimy, horribly under-seasoned, and lukewarm.
Chips & Creamed Spinach
There was no sign above the dip next to the tortilla chips, but our best guess is that it was creamed spinach, and we doubt you'd like this pairing.
The tortilla chips weren't anything to write home about; they tasted like they were from a bag. Plus, the creamed spinach was lukewarm, salty, and too earthy.
Sautéed Peppers & Onions
The sautéed peppers and onions were bland with no identifiable seasoning. They seemed barely sauteed — as if they spent only a minute in a medium-hot pan.
Plus, there was no Maillard reaction to speak of, which alone could have boosted the flavor of the vegetables. Golden Corral majorly messed up the easy-to-make dish.
