All'Antico Vinaio's Mortadella Sandwich Is Slathered With Pistachio Cream
By MICHELLE WELSCH
Since 1991, Tommaso Mazzanti has been serving up sandwiches at All'Antico Vinaio, and many consider them to be the best in the world. Today, the restaurant has 9 locations around the world, but even so, it’s hard to get your hands on a sandwich as they have a tendency of selling out, like the famous La Paradiso, which many consider the deli’s best.
On the famed sandwich shop's website, the La Paradiso sandwich is listed as one of the most popular orders. For 10 euros, patrons can walk away with generously sliced layers of mortadella packed into a thin focaccia-like bread that has been slathered with a pistachio and stracciatella spread and sprinkled with extra pistachios.
These sandwiches may seem simple, but The New Yorker has said their makers would be better described as artists. If you’d like to taste it for yourself but don’t live near a location — or they happen to sell out — try making a creamy spread with your preferred nuts, then slather it onto schiacciata bread, and pile with sliced meat.
