Alaskan Hot Dogs Get Their Signature Flavor From This Iconic Soda
BY MAGGIE PEÑA
Alaska's signature hot dogs feature reindeer meat, which tastes gamey and slightly sweet, but the real stars of the dish are the Coca-Cola-glazed onions.
The onions are first grilled, often in olive oil, then seasoned with simple spices like salt and pepper. Next, it's time to glaze the onions in the iconic soft drink.
Coca-cola is added to the pan and everything is cooked for 15-20 minutes, or until most of the liquid has been soaked up or caramelized.
The reindeer hot dog, which is usually blended with pork or beef, is placed inside a steamed bun and then topped with the Coca-Cola glazed onions.
