Add Chia Seeds To Your Morning Coffee For A Kick Of Fiber
BY STEPHANIE FRIEDMAN
By adding chia seeds to coffee, you not only get a more nutritious beverage but also one that's more richly textured, thanks to their high fiber content and thickening properties.
To incorporate chia seeds in your coffee for a fiber boost, avoid dumping them straight in. They can soak up to 10 times their weight in liquid, which creates a gel-like texture.
Instead, allow them to thicken first by mixing a few tablespoons of chia seeds with hot or cold water, depending on the type of coffee that you're making.
They only need to sit for about five minutes, but you can let them sit for 20 minutes or even overnight. The longer the chia seeds sit, the more pudding-like they get.
To assemble your drink, combine the chia mixture with your coffee, creamer, or milk, and ice if needed. With chia seeds, you'll get a thicker, fiber-packed cup of joe.
