A 20th Century Is The Train-Inspired Drink You Might Have Forgotten About
BY MICHELLE WELSCH
The 20th Century cocktail was inspired by the luxury train from the early 1900s called the 20th Century Limited, which offered high-end travel options to commuters and celebrities.
The sleek gin-based cocktail was served in coupe glasses, likely easing the travel experience for passengers enjoying the train's lavish amenities.
Made with Lillet blanc, creme de cacao, and lemon juice, the cocktail is a variation of the Corpse Reviver No. 2 — instead of orange liqueur, a chocolate-flavored liqueur is used.
The original creator of the drink used the now-discontinued Kina Lillet to shake up and serve the drink, but a Cocchi Americano serves as a good replacement.
Garnished with a twist of a lemon, the aesthetic 20th Century cocktail has citrus notes that hit hard, but it's quickly smoothed out with the rich, warm notes of chocolate.
The lemon and chocolate combination creates an unexpected, lovely flavor, like chocolate-coated orange candy or lemon bars drizzled with melted chocolate.
